Faculty Reviews: Teaching Independence: A Therapeutic Approach to Stroke Rehabilitation (TI)

Teaching Independence is a great introduction to basic day-to-day management of persons who have survived a stroke. For my students, many of whom have had limited experience in working with people who have survived strokes, this is an excellent place to start. The down-to-earth approach, relaxed pace and very real situations make these videos a great introduction to NDT for my students. They love seeing real people, real families and real situations. This authenticity makes the ideas and techniques much more compelling and accessible for the student. I love the very occupation-based approach and clear explanations; the training manual is also a good support for the students.”

“Currently both series [TI and FTI] are incorporated into various class lectures and sections. In the fall quarter, we use the DVD’s in our Intervention Techniques I class as demonstrations for positioning and transfers for the lab portion of class. In Disorders of Human performance series (spring quarter) and for Intervention Techniques II (summer quarter), we use the video case studies for the lab portion of classes and for quizzes.

They are indeed helpful, especially the case studies highlighting your 1:1 interaction, evaluation, intervention and process of treatment.”
