About International Clinical Educators, Inc. (ICE)

The purpose of International Clinical Educators, Inc. (ICE) is to provide high-quality educational materials, resources and information for therapists, educators and caregivers in order to significantly impact the quality of care for stroke survivors.

History

ICE was founded by Jan Davis in October, 1983, after she returned home to the United States after spending 4 years in Switzerland working as Director of Occupational Therapy at the Klinik Valens. Her initial goal was to facilitate the sharing of clinical expertise and skills between European trained experts and those in North America.

In order to share the skills she’d learned in Switzerland with clinicians in the USA, she invited internationally acclaimed instructors such as Dr. and Berta Bobath, Patricia Davies, Louise Rutz-LaPitz, Dr. Felicie Affolter and Kay Coombes to teach symposia and workshops in the United States.

In 1988, ICE hosted the First Annual Interdisciplinary Bobath Symposium in the Treatment of Adult Hemiplegia with Drs. Berta and Karel Bobath as keynote speakers. For 10 years this symposium was held annually with faculty and participants from around the world.

Patricia Davies, author of books fundamental to NDT "Steps to Follow", "Right in the Middle" and "Starting Again" was a keynote speaker and frequent presenter including Advanced Level Courses in Adult Hemiplegia and Traumatic Brain Injury.

Louise Rutz-LaPitz, senior Bobath Instructor and President of the International Bobath Instructor's Association (IBITAH) was a presenter at every Symposium. As one of the 'backbone' instructors of ICE, she has taught several 3-week NDT courses with Jan Davis in the United States and Switzerland and continues to share her skills and expertise as an instructor throughout the world.

ICE has consistently delivered high quality healthcare education, leading the way with innovative learning methods and multimedia clinical education programs.
